bast
Hailing from Flatbush Brooklyn, Bast is one of the most respected street artists of the hip hop generation and perhaps the most prolific graffiti artist on the New York scene. Having been brought up on B-boy and graffiti culture, Bast started working on the streets in 1983 and went on to form a collective called Helter Skelter in the early 90’s.
After a brief hiatus in the mid-nineties Bast returned to New York City with the manifesto Revolucion de Papel a homage to his father who had worked in a paper factory for thirty five years. This slogan would regularly appear on his work, usually accompanied by the word ‘Bast’ and corrupt versions of Warner Brothers and Walt Disney characters carrying out acts of street culture and violence.
