"Paul Smith is officially the nicest man on earth. Having received one of my pieces of work, he told me that if I was ever in London I should pop by and say hello. The next day I booked a train ticket to London and called his bluff. He was true to his word and the very next week I was sat in his office having a cup of tea and a posh chocolate biscuit with the fashion legend. He was great company and gave me some invaluable advice that I still use to this day.
Jamaican Jim is a character who has featured in a number of my pieces. In my mind he’s a young Jamaican rude boy who’s living in England after being invited by the government in the 60’s to fill labour requirements. Amongst his possessions were a collection of Ska 7’’ singles that helped forge a musical revolution that still resonates today."
