“When I first arrived at Paul’s house I had to run the gauntlet of screaming girls who seemed to congregate on a permanent basis. Paul couldn’t have been more welcoming or generous; when I mentioned that I only had the clothes I was wearing he opened his wardrobe and said ‘Help yourself.’”
Dudley Edwards
McInnerney and Edwards were key players at the heart of the Summer Of Love in Swinging London. Pop artist Edwards lived with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, creating artwork for The Beatles’ London homes and painting McCartney’s ‘Magic Piano’. He was also present during much of the writing and recording of the seminal Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
Artist and writer McInnerney was also at the epicentre of Sixties counterculture, at the time Arts Editor for the influential International Times. McInnerney organised a succession of ground-breaking events and ‘happenings’ including the legendary ’14 Hour Technicolour Dream’; a fund-raising concert for the International Times, referred to as "One of the most infamous acid freak-outs ever to take place in London" and featuring performances from Syd Barrett & Pink Floyd, Pete Townsend and Yoko Ono amongst others.
