Noel Gallagher
Born in Greater Manchester in 1967, Sharon Latham is a renowned photographer with a career spanning over 30 years.
In 2010 Latham began her tenure with Manchester City Football club, bringing her to prominence as the first female to hold the coveted position as the official Premier League club photographer. The period was one of the most successful in the club’s history, and Latham would document a succession of iconic moments including trophies in the English Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
Having previously photographed Oasis at Knebworth, Maine Road and the Etihad Stadium, it was also at Manchester City that Sharon re-connected with Noel Gallagher.
Latham: “The first interview that ‘Pep’ (Josep Guardiola Man City club manager) ever did was with Noel, and that was my last shoot before I left the club. I put my foot in the water and asked to go on a few gigs with Noel on tour and he said ‘Yeah, Shaz – no problem’. When the 2016 tour started I asked if I could shoot a couple of gigs, he said ‘Yeah, come to America’. I was only supposed to be there for two weeks, and it turned into five years.”
The creative relationship Sharon formed with Gallagher has inspired ‘A New World Blazing’; a highly anticipated exhibition which documents live performances as well as rare and intimate glimpses behind the scenes with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The exhibition, which launched initially online, highlights Latham’s ability to capture the heart of the touring experience, offering fans a multi-faceted glimpse of life on the road with the band.
‘A New World Blazing’ comprises of 35 limited edition prints plus 12 large format deluxe editions, with selected works signed by both Sharon and Noel. The deluxe artworks focus mainly on the onstage experience; Latham’s original image is enlarged and face-mounted between acrylic and aluminium Dibond. The effect is one of stunning, almost three-dimensional depth and richly saturated colour, heightening the electricity captured in these live moments.
