Candie Payne: The Mercer Open

Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate

We are delighted to announce that Candie Payne has been selected to show at The Mercer Gallery‘s annual Open Exhibition. For the first time the Mercer will present artworks from artists with a connection to Yorkshire as a whole, rather than just the Harrogate district.

Payne was born in Liverpool and moved with her family to New York at the age of four. After a successful music career that included collaborations with David Byrne, Kevin Ayers and Paul Weller, Payne took up a studio space in her hometown of Liverpool to refocus her creative energy into art. She later moved to Harrogate to oversee the opening of her first solo exhibition, The Age Of A Flower, which debuted at RedHouse in 2019. She now lives and works from a local studio with artist and partner Thomas James Butler.

The Mercer Open will include Payne’s stunning four panelled painting ‘All We Have To Do Is Reach Out And Touch It’ and ‘Daisy Chain‘, an intimate pencil and ink drawing that illustrates Payne’s understanding of figurative art.

The exhibition will run from 17th September 2022 to 8th January 2023 at the Mercer Gallery, whose opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-4pm.
