“The wonderful thing about living in the shadows, is that when you do find it, the smallest glimpse of light stands out like a beacon. These paintings are all about that, those moments where I managed to see how beautiful it all can be, even those dark corners hidden in the shadows.”
We are delighted to confirm the opening of Danny Larsen‘s first UK solo exhibition From the Shadows on Saturday 26th November.
Born in Oslo, Norway in 1981, Larsen’s atmospheric paintings celebrate the landscape of his homeland. He produces intricate works on canvas and paper in a neo-pointillist style, often depicting wild forests, open water and illuminated vistas.
Larsen’s philosophy is an intrinsic part of his practice; to embrace the ever-present darkness, finding the light and beauty within it. He seeks out the treasure within the ordinary, crystalising apparently unremarkable experiences as moments of glory.
From the Shadows follows his sell-out Darkness exhibition at the prestigious Kittelsen Museum in Vikersund, Norway in 2021. The collection was reported as the best attended show in the museum’s history and Larsen’s reputation has continued to grow, with works now held in numerous distinguished private and public collections.

“I don’t understand how one can walk by a tree and not be happy at the sight of it? …Oh, it’s only that I’m not able to express it…What beautiful things there are at every step.”
Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Idiot, 1869
